While reading this blog I’d be grateful if you’d keep these important qualifications/ disclaimers in mind.
This blog is for thinking out loud
Therefore not everything I post here will represent finished, carefully worked out doctrinal positions. Writing, typing etc. helps me to process and order my thoughts, and one of the reasons this blog exists is so that I can think out loud in this way. This means feedback, comments, criticisms, are all welcome. But it also means that assumptions shouldn’t be made about where I finally ‘land’ on some issue, or on the exegesis of some passage, or on the practical outworking of some teaching, just on the basis of what appears here. I’ll endeavour not to be misleading, but thinking out loud is sometimes a messy process. I’d much rather someone ask for clarity than make an assumption and declare that to the ends of the earth.
This blog is only a part of my life
Please don’t assume that this blog necessarily represents everything that is most important to me. The balance of subjects covered does not necessarily mirror the emphases of my life and ministry. Almost inevitably this blog is going to emphasise some of the things I’m interested in over others, and dwell on certain doctrines over others. It almost inevitably will focus more frequently on what are often deemed ‘secondary issues’ than will be common to the rest of my ministry. I’ll always endeavour to make the caveats that seem to be necessary, but as a sinful finite human being I ask to be ‘read’ with patience and charity.
This blog is mine, all mine
Which is to say, the contents of this blog don’t necessarily represent the opinions and policies of my church, or any of its other leaders. It doesn’t even necessarily represent what my wife might think about something. Please don’t ‘impute’ my thoughts and views to others with whom I’m connected unless there’s good and obvious reasons to do so.
This blog is under the Lordship of Jesus Christ
With all the above in mind, nevertheless, I am responsible for the content of this blog. I fully expect that what I write (and don’t write) here will form part of what I am called to give account for at the final judgment. I am (at least partly, and probably often largely) culpable if misunderstandings and confusion abound as a result of anything I post here. With this is mind, if you believe something I have put up here is heretical, destructive of the gospel, damaging to the Church of God, or seriously unethical, then do not hesitate to comment or to contact me to say so.
